Douglas Cuffman, UXC, CSPO

With over 15+ years in UX and digital product design—and more than a decade in leadership—I’ve dedicated my career to creating intuitive, meaningful experiences that solve real human problems. I’ve worked across industries and at all levels of scale, from scrappy startups to Fortune 100 enterprises, always driven by the belief that great design begins with empathy and ends with impact.

My path has taken me from hands-on UX designer to leading large-scale design teams, guiding strategy, mentoring emerging talent, and working side-by-side with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders. Whether I’m defining a UX vision, facilitating design sprints, or advocating for user research with executives, I lead with clarity, collaboration, and a strong sense of purpose.

Over the years, I’ve built and scaled UX practices from the ground up—most notably at Verizon’s ZenKey, where I grew a team of 11 UX SMEs and helped shape a federated identity platform used by millions. At LLBean, my redesigned checkout experience contributed to their first-ever $1M day in online sales. More recently, I helped ThermoFisher Scientific modernize their case management system, acting as interim product manager and mentoring junior designers through complex enterprise challenges.

I’m endlessly curious, deeply collaborative, and at my best when I’m empowering teams to push boundaries, solve tough problems, and design with heart. My goal has always been the same: to bring structure to chaos, deliver value through design, and create experiences that matter.

2005

Dealer Daily Redesign for Toyota North America

Drawing from my earlier experience as a simultaneous technical interpreter for Toyota—and my deep understanding of the Toyota Production System—I led a full redesign of Toyota’s Dealer Daily web portal. This internal platform powers vehicle sales across the U.S., and the redesign significantly improved dealer workflow efficiency and usability at a national scale.

2007

Blending Strategy and Creative: From MTV to Enterprise UX

That year, I had the unique opportunity to design a branded microsite for MTV featuring 50 Cent—balancing visual storytelling, user engagement, and brand cohesion in a high-traffic entertainment context. Around the same time, I was also deepening my work on UX strategy for enterprise clients, aligning large-scale digital initiatives with business goals. It was a pivotal point where I proved I could deliver both creative impact and strategic clarity—whether for a music icon or a Fortune 500 boardroom.

2011

Redesigning LLBean’s Checkout – Driving $1M in Daily Sales

At LLBean, I led the redesign of their e-commerce checkout experience, focusing on simplifying user flows, reducing friction, and improving conversion. The result? A seamless, customer-centered experience that contributed to the company’s first-ever $1 million day in online sales. This project reinforced my belief that good UX isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a revenue-generating, loyalty-building engine when done right.

2013

Breaking Into Finance – UX at Scale

In 2013, I entered the financial sector, designing for some of the world’s largest financial institutions—including Fidelity Investments, TIAA, and Bank of America. This was my first deep dive into multinational enterprise environments, where I learned to navigate the complexity of regulatory requirements, data-heavy interfaces, and the unique trust factors critical in fintech UX. It was a defining chapter that sharpened my skills in scalable design systems, accessibility, and cross-functional collaboration at a global level.

2021

Built UX Practice at Verizon ZenKey

Hired as the first design lead for a federated identity initiative backed by major telecoms. I built a team of 13 UX SMEs and created a full-stack UX practice from scratch—working across security, compliance, and consumer flows.

2023

Enterprise Redesign & Mentorship at ThermoFisher

As interim product manager and senior UX lead, I spearheaded the redesign of a global enterprise case management system used to support complex, multinational sales operations. Beyond leading design strategy, I also mentored junior designers through high-stakes, cross-functional workstreams—helping elevate UX maturity across the organization and championing user-centered thinking at every level.
